What would Munich be like without King Ludwig I? Königsplatz, Karolinenplatz, Odeonsplatz, Ludwigstraße and Max-Joseph-Platz display truly noble dimensions. The numerous Neoclassical and historical revival buildings on these squares and avenues create an elegant and unique city ensemble.

Ludwig made Munich into the “most northern city of Italy”. In the course of his many journeys to Italy he commissioned his architects to make copies of his favourite buildings for Munich, his city of residence. On our walk we will seek out the spirit of Ludwig I – still very much alive – relishing his own creations and those of his contemporaries.
