The Glyptothek – superb classical antiquity
Many claim that the Glyptothek is the “the most beautiful museum in Munich”. It is certainly the oldest. Built in a Neoclassical style, it was opened to the public in 1830.
The building with its magnificent façade, a temple front in the Ionian mode, houses an important collection of classical sculpture. A true eye-catcher is the erotic, lasciviously reclining Barberini Faun. Other highlights include the 2,500-year-old figures from the Temple of Aphaia and the room containing Roman portrait busts.
Opening times: Tuesdays–Sundays, 10.00 am - 5.00 pm, Thursdays to 8.00 pm
Length of our tour: 60 - 90 min.
